Make-up days for snow closures announced
Due to inclement weather, Salem-Keizer students have missed four full school days, had one early release and one late start this school year.

Time at school is essential to student success. To make up for some lost instructional time, the district has decided to make changes to the school calendar.

Three school days have been added to the calendar:
•          Thursday, March 23, 2017, will be a school day for all students. Parent-Teacher conferences will take place after school and in the evening.

•          Thursday and Friday, June 15 and 16, 2017, will be school days for all students except graduating seniors. High schools will develop a revised schedule for second semester finals.

Dates of high school graduation ceremonies will not change.

Please be aware that additional calendar changes could be made if there is more inclement weather.

Aviso Importante

posted Feb 10, 2017, 10:02 AM by richmond elementary

Any student who wishes to attend a school other than his or her assigned school starting January 2017, must submit an In-District Transfer request (IDT) between November 1 and 30, 2016.

High school students may request transfer to access elective programs not offered at their assigned school. A link to the catalog of electives eligible for transfer can be found on the Student Transfers page. Some restrictions and requirements apply to the Electives IDT request.

Invitación a participar: Reunión anual de Título I y de participación de padres de familia

Estimado padre o tutor legal Título I:

Distribución y análisis de nuestra política parental de participación;
Estudio y análisis del plan de estudios, evaluaciones, y los niveles de logros académicos que los estudiantes deben alcanzar;
Información sobre servicios disponibles para los padres de estudiantes elegibles;
Búsqueda de sugerencias para el mejoramiento del logro académico de los estudiantes;

De qué manera la implementación de estas políticas ha contribuido al progreso académico de nuestros estudiantes para alcanzar los estándares de desempeño del estado de Oregón;
Identificar las áreas efectivas y las que necesitan mejora en nuestros programas;

Invitation to Participate: Title I Parental Involvement and
Annual Parent Meeting

August 24, 2016

Dear Title I Parent or Guardian:

Your child’s academic success is directly related to your involvement in his or her education and
communication with our staff. By working together, we can provide the best possible
educational experience for your child.

Your child currently receives or is eligible to receive Title IA services. We would like to invite you to a meeting to discuss the Title I program in our school.

At this meeting, we will also explain the requirements of Title I and provide a description of all
services related to school and parent activities, including:

Distributing and discussing our parental involvement policy;
Discussing our curriculum, assessments, and the proficiency levels students are
expected to attain;
Informing you of the services available to eligible students and parents;
Seeking suggestions for improving student academic achievement;
Explaining your right to be involved in the Title I program.

In our ongoing effort to improve, we will also conduct an annual evaluation to determine the
effectiveness of our parental involvement component of our Title IA program later in the school
year. This annual evaluation determines:
How this policy’s implementation has contributed to our students’ academic progress
in achieving Oregon’s content and performance standards;
The identification of our programs’ strengths and areas for improvement;
The removal of any barriers preventing parents from participating as partners in their child’s education and
Title IA program effectiveness.

We will hold our annual meeting on Tuesday, September 6th at 5:30 PM in the gym.
We will hold additional meetings throughout the school year and set these meeting dates at this initial meeting.

Please join us in this worthwhile meeting. If you would like additional information, please
contact: Isela Guevarra-Cruz at 503-399-3180.

Arranque Suave de Kinder

posted Aug 5, 2016, 4:04 PM by richmond elementary

Kindergarten “Smooth Start” offered in September

posted Aug 5, 2016, 3:39 PM by richmond elementary

Students entering kindergarten next fall are encouraged to participate in a Smooth Start day before the first day of school. Smooth Start is a day to ease students’ transition into the school environment. Children will have the chance to “practice” being in school for a day before the school year begins.

Children will get familiar with their classroom, learn where bathrooms are located, and learn how the cafeteria works. They will also meet their teachers and have a chance to ask questions.

Students attend Smooth Start on one of two days in September, based on their last name:
Monday, September 12
for students with last names starting with A through L

Tuesday, September 13
for students with last names starting with M through Z

Our teachers will contact you to schedule a DRA appointment.
There is no school for kindergarten students during DRA testing.

The first full day of school for kindergarten students is
Wednesday, September 14, 2016.

For more information, please call the school office at (503) 399-3180

Kindergarten Orientation May 11, 2016

posted Mar 3, 2016, 4:03 PM by richmond elementary

Dear Parents,

Our school will hold a kindergarten orientation meeting on May 11 at 2:30pm.
Please help us spread the word by telling your friends and neighbors who have kindergarten-age children about this important meeting.

At kindergarten orientation, parents will learn about bus transportation, how to help their children prepare for school, what their students will experience during a typical school day, and much more.

Parents can RSVP for kindergarten orientation by calling the school office at 503-399-3180.

Kindergarten is a free, full-day program. Kindergarten students attend school the same hours as first through fifth grade students. Our school is excited to welcome the next class of kindergarten students for a full day of learning and growing!

Registration is now open for fall kindergarten. Parents can register in advance of orientation, or pick up registration materials during the meeting.

Thank you for helping us spread the word out about kindergarten orientation!

Clases de Kindergarten 2016-2017

posted Mar 3, 2016, 10:13 AM by richmond elementary

Salem-Keizer Elementary In-District Transfer Policy Change

posted Mar 3, 2016, 10:07 AM by richmond elementary

In an effort to better allow schools to serve students, balance class sizes, staff accurately and align transfer windows, we are changing the In-District Transfer process to include two distinct windows for transfers at the elementary level. A similar process and change occurred at the secondary level two years ago. Elementary transfer requests will now be accepted March 1- March 30th for the transfer to occur at the beginning of the following school year, and November 1- November 30 for the transfer to occur after Winter Break. Due to the shortened notice of the change we will extend the Spring transition window this year only from March 1 – May 30th. If you are considering a transfer to another Salem-Keizer school for next year, please submit your request to your home school before the May 30th deadline to be considered for approval.
Thank you for your partnership and for sharing your children with us every day,
